Why Buy Black?

By The Delaware Eye - Wilmington, DE

As an African-American born, raised and educated in the United States of America, I naturally attempt to support Black businesses when I can. Sometimes I cannot blame us for not supporting us!!! It is painful at times to come into a business when we have staffs that just do not care. We do not have a smile on our face or in our voice. Our businesses do not have the adequate inventory. Why can't we open on time? Why don't we answer the phone properly? Why are we servicing our friends over our paying customers? This is the kind of stuff that we can all add a story or two and we can go on and on about what we are doing wrong.

To walk away and never support our businesses would be surrendering, and I do not give up. We are a race of people who are very creative, talented and resourceful. If we would adopt and instill a spirit of excellence in ourselves and our children, we would stop settling in our relationships with others, including our spouses, children and significant others. We need to educate and inform each other, in love, when we notice we are not handling one another in good faith. This may mean sending a letter to the business or calling up the owner/manager of the store and providing them with the details and hopefully just offering a solution. My very wise father told me a long time ago, "Do not come to me with a complaint without offering a solution."

We need to have experts provide workshops and we need to take advantage of these workshops. There would be no sense in organizing one if we do not attend. We need to learn how to be organized and properly prioritize our days.

I was a small child during the 1960's Civil Rights Era, but my Black Pride has never disappeared. I want to make a difference in our community!! I will not give up because I want us to fulfill our God given destiny. We have to learn to love ourselves enough to invest us.

Mt. Joy's LUST Workshop - D.L.Y.D.R.Y.L.

This workshop is for grown men over 21. This workshop is structured so that men can gather and face the truth about their lust and the lies that perpetuate it. In this workshop you will gain practical solutions to break our bondage to lust. It is largely based on the book by Stephen Artenburn and Fred Stoeker entitled Every Man's Battle. This book and other sources of information and experiences will be brought together by Rev. Derrick E. Porter in a way that will challenge and change the lives of the men in attendance. The information received on Friday evening will not only benefit you it will benefit your spouse and everyone around you.

It is a subject that we must face now as men! From the television to the internet, print media, to videos, men are constantly faced with the assault of sexual images. It is impossible to avoid such temptations, but thank God it is not impossible to conquer them.

Men, there is no more common an enemy that we face than our own lust. It seeks to destroy our true manhood, our marriages, our relationships, our families, our faith, and our communities. In this workshop you will be equipped with some weapons to fight this enemy and win!

The workshop will be at Mt. Joy United Methodist Church. 451 Townsend Street, Wilmington, DE 19801, 655-7751 Come and gather for the battle that will save your life!

Business and Passion

Being in business for yourself is everyone's dream but in order to be successful you must absolutely love your business. Yes, you can do a great job when you aren't passionate but the quality of work is greater when you have passion for your work. Remember, taking risks is the only way you can design the life you want so why not start with your passion.
