On Friday, November 10th, the Brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity (Wilmington Alumni Chapter)
presented its second "Old School Concert" at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, Delaware. The
concert featured a group of fabulous local artists, singing the popular songs of the '60s and '70s.
The group was headed by Vocalist Mike Johnson and included local favorites, such as Ira Shy, Christine
Starling, Terrence Stamp, Sharon Thompson, Lesa Harris (Liberty), Minna, the eight-member TRS Band and
comedian "Sweet". The concert was hosted by Richard Leroi and Guest Host Doug Henderson, the well-known
WDAS Radio Disc Jockey.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Mainstream Leadership, Inc., the 501C3 Youth Development arm of
the Wilmington Alumni Chapter. Additionally, 150 of the 600 persons in attendance were senior citizens,
sponsored through the generosity of Councilman J. William Bell and County Council, the New Castle County
Executive's Office, Joe Williams State Farm Insurance Co., Mr. & Mrs. Ernest "Sammy" Congo and the Congo
Funeral Home, the Delaware River & Bay Authority and the New Castle County Community Partnership.
A good time was had by all. Someone commented that "This reminds me of the concerts at the Uptown
Theatre in Philadelphia in the '60s."
Please stay tuned for the Kappa Cultural Event in February.
