Year-end Tax Preparation

SND Management

As the 2007 year ends, the 2007 tax year begins. That means it is time to prepare for filing your 2007 tax returns. Whether a business return or personal return, preparation is essential for accurate and timely processing of your tax return regardless of self-preparing or if a paid preparer is completing the task for you.

The IRS expects to begin processing returns starting on Jan. 14, with the exception of those impacted by the new Alternative minimum tax law changes.

Here is a checklist to use when organizing your tax files for individuals and businesses.

Individuals
• W-2s and 1099s from your employer
• Social Security Cards (for yourself, spouse, children and other dependents)
• Copy of last years tax return (very helpful)
• List of other income/expenses (itemized deductions)
• Childcare information (providers ID number & receipts for amount paid)
• Blank check or savings account information for direct deposit
• 1099s for interest, dividends, unemployment, government and miscellaneous income
• 1098 for student loan interest, mortgage interest, or property tax
• Empty your Flexible Spending Accounts
• Make final IRA contributions by April 15th of the upcoming year
• For those 50 or older, make an additional catch-up contribution to your IRA of $500 in addition to your yearly $15000.
Businesses
• List of income (customer receipts, rebate receipts, or paid invoices)
• List of ordinary expenses (office rent, supplies, vendor statements, receipts, advertising expenses)
• Vehicle information for business use (year, make, mode, business mileage)
• Vehicle expenditure documentation (gas, tolls, parking, interest payments)
• If you used your home to conduct your business obtain all home-business related expenses (mortgage, utilities, water, etc.)
• Business travel expenses (vehicle mileage, hotel receipts, airfare, meals, etc.)
• Obtain updated W-4 for current employees
• Verify address and contact information for current employees.
• Pay final bonuses or gifts to employees

A New Year - A New Beginning

Exercise with Joy

January 1, 2008 brings with it hope, promise, and the chance to start over and make changes in your life. Even if you don’t make New Year Resolutions, it seems the first of the year is the best time to reevaluate your personal or business life because you’ve got 12 months to put changes into action!

Now, I know that emotions play a HUGE part in the way we live our daily lives whether you want to admit it or not. And, there is nothing wrong with it as long as you challenge yourself to be the best YOU can be. However, some of us fall short of reaching our potential because we are afraid to step out on faith, stretch, and try new things.

This year, don’t let emotional baggage stop you from being the best YOU can be! There may be times when you feel inadequate because you’ve become accustomed to verbal or physical abuse; times when the back stabbing, jealousy, negative comments, and disappointments seem normal, and the confusion and uncertainty of facing tomorrow without these negative folks or feelings in your life can be unsettling. But, TODAY, you have a chance to start over and take control of your life.

Taking control isn’t easy, but it can be done step-by-step. It can be as simple as writing down all of the things you feel need changing, then write down all of the things you feel are really working, then study your list. If the “it needs changing” side is longer than the “it is working” side, you’d better get busy and find a way to bring balance into your life.

Your 2008 change list should include these important questions:

What will I change?
Who will I start removing or drop from my life?
How will I accomplish the change(s)?
What steps can I take to improve my spiritual, mind, and body health?
