MWUL Young Professionals

General Body Meeting: Come be empowered at the January general body meeting. This is your opportunity to network with like-minded individuals who are creating positive change in the Wilmington community. The meeting begins promptly at 6pm in room 105, January 16th at the Community Service Building located at 100 West 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19802.

The Achievement Matters! staff of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League is looking for "Achievement Coaches" to help our sixth-grade students with their homework after school. Achievement Coaches are dedicated, enthusiastic, and friendly members of the community who would like to contribute to the academic success of our young achievers. Achievement Coaching will take place everyday from 6pm until 8pm at Bancroft School at 7th & Lombard St. in Wilmington, DE 19801.

About the Program: Achievement Matters! is an academic achievement initiative that provides community and school-based interventions for Bancroft 6th grade students living in the 19801 zip code and their entire family. In partnership with the Christina Cultural Arts Center, the YMCA Resource Center, and Children & Families First, the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League has developed a community-based after- school program that will reinforce and bring to life the learning objectives of the Christina School District and build character in each of the students (called "Achievers"). A major part of this initiative is what the Urban League calls "Achievement Time" where "Achievement Coaches" guide the Achievers through their homework and take-home assignments, making sure each fully comprehends the subject matter, completes their assignments, and submits quality work to their teacher. The role of an Achievement coach is to offer encouragement and support while guiding Achievers toward correct answers and explaining aspects of the subject matter that the Achiever may find challenging.
