Announces Bid For 16th Senatorial District
Camden,
DE ~ Harold E. Stafford, 60, former Delaware secretary of labor,
and a long time resident of Kent County, will announce his bid as
the Democratic candidate for the 16th Senatorial District seat.
Stafford will make the announcement on Thursday, March 20, 2008
at 12 noon at the Old State House in Dover, Del., and at 5 P.M.
at the Harrington Police Memorial. The events are free and the public
is invited to attend and celebrate this auspicious occasion with
Stafford, his family, friends and supporters.
Stafford, who
has over 31 years of experience as a public servant to the citizens
of Delaware, noted that his campaign will focus on improving the
quality of life for all citizens of the 16th district. Stafford
is widely respected in state government for his ability to work
with people from diverse backgrounds and for his uncompromising
efforts to improve agency performance. It was during his tenure
as secretary of labor that the department won the prestigious Delaware
Quality Award for Excellence in state government. It is this rare
combination of character and competency that Stafford is best remembered
for by his peers and employees.
Before serving as secretary of labor, he worked in
various senior leadership positions at the Delaware Departments
of Correction and Labor, the Delaware Economic Development Office
and the Delaware State Planning Office. Stafford knows that his
extensive hands-on experience in state government, combined with
his comprehensive knowledge of how to improve government through
the application of quality principles, have prepared him well for
the office of State Senator in the 16th District.
Mr. Stafford promises to conduct a positive campaign,
focused on public policies not personalities. He strongly advocates
an open approach to government by “letting the sun shine in”.
He also emphasizes strict accountability for state government services,
asking state agencies to be more business-like in their approach
with specific emphasis on providing quality customer service to
all citizens. Stafford believes in a common sense approach to urban
development—balancing the need for housing development with
superior planning for the required infrastructure. Finally, he believes
that the quality of life for all of our citizens can be significantly
improved if we focus on affordable health care and technology-based
educational reform.

She's
Worth Waiting For by Tia Marie Boykins
Seventeen
year old April Nelson is not at all happy about being the new girl
in town, especially since it’s her senior year of high school.
When she found out her father’s job was being transferred
and the family would have to relocate to Pennsylvania, she just
knew her life was over. That is, until the first day of school when
hottie Lance Dupree walked into her life. Not only is Lance gorgeous,
smart, and talented, but he’s also a genuinely nice guy! April
and Lance are instantly consumed with one another, however, there’s
one major problem. Lance already has a girlfriend. Her name is Michelle
and she is already a thorn in April’s side. As much as Michelle
continues to stress Lance out, he finds it difficult to break it
off with her. Even if he does cut Michelle loose, April may have
an even bigger problem. She’s crazy about Lance, but how will
he handle the fact that she is a virgin? April’s sure Lance
has been sexually involved with Michelle, and is afraid he may not
want to wait until she’s ready to go all the way. Will Lance
feel she’s worth waiting for?
Tia
Marie Boykins is a first time self-published author. She’s
a Philadelphia native, currently residing with her husband in Delaware.
Tia founded the company Creativ1 Publishing with the purpose of
producing high quality books for children and young adults. The
goal of Creativ1 is to bring reading back to our youth and make
it fun again. Living in a society where everything is online and
electronic, kids have gotten away from reading for enjoyment. Tia
would like to see that return. She’s Worth Waiting For is
her debut novel, targeted specifically for the teen and young adult
audience. Look out for her second novel, Fast Friends and Almost
Famous Freshman, the sequel to She’s Worth Waiting For, coming
soon.

El Amaanah Social Services is a non-profit, organization
devoted to serving poor, homeless, and disadvantaged people in and
around Wilmington, Delaware. El Amaanah offers food, shelter, job
training and placement, and clothing for those in need.
El Amaanah aims
to help individuals and families who are entrenched in drug related
violence, domestic abuse, and child welfare endangerment reach their
full human potential. El Amaanah strives to meet this objective
by providing support and counseling that enables those at risk for
illegal activity to leave street life and make positive choices.
Much of this is attained through outreach. Our outreach efforts
involve ongoing classes and workshops at Plummer Community Correction
Center, Ferris School for Boys, William Marion Stevenson House Detention
Center and Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correction Institution.
As a major resource center for the ex-inmate rejoining society,
El Amaanah provides shelter while assisting ex-inmates in securing
housing, a source of income, independent living skills and other
resources. El Amaanah also provides support and advocacy that facilitate
positive changes for the ex-inmate reentering society in an effort
to reduce recidivism. El Amaanah is also committed to providing
shelter to homeless and endangered women. Through our services women
receive training and experience in Early Childhood Development.
