Colinthia Gosa Scholarship

In honor of Mrs. Colinthia Gosa, X-traordinary Women, an all female motorcycle organization, has created this scholarship to award a female Howard High School graduating senior. Mrs. Gosa, an Alpha Kappa Alpha (A.K.A.) sorority member, an educator of over 30 years, and the inspiration behind this scholarship, is an advocate of higher learning, independence, and at the end of the day –the self-maintenance of a dignified young woman!

In 1991, Mrs. Gosa retired from Wilmington High School and left an ever-lasting mark with this organization’s President, Nicole Simmons. Mrs. Gosa, with her support, dedication, and eye for talent, had been informed of a student who possessed strong typing skills, and made it her duty to discretely monitor this student from the back of the classroom and was quickly impressed with the intense maturity level and typing speed she possessed. Mrs. Gosa met and took Nicole under her wing, nurturing her to her highest potential. She helped Nicole to enhance her business skills in typing, tailored her interviewing techniques, and boosted her self-confidence. Currently, Mrs. Gosa resides in Georgia where she continues her career as a teacher; having a profound impact on her students there. In addition, Mrs. Gosa, a mother, and wife, with her own aspirations, has also completed her own higher education goals and has obtained a Master’s Degree in Education. To further compliment all of her heartfelt endeavors, Mrs. Gosa was honored in 2003 by Ohio State University as National Substitute Teacher of the Year!

Now, almost fifteen years later, it is our great pleasure to implement and establish this $1,000 scholarship in Mrs. Gosa’s name and continue her legacy of higher educational growth, with emphasis on our young ladies to always remain mature and classy in all aspects of their life and instead of waiting for that door of opportunity to open – reach out and turn the knob yourself! Never give up, and you will be surprised at what you can accomplish when you establish goals for yourself.

The 2007 winner will be announced 5/29 during the Howard High School of Technology's award recognition assembly. Anyone interested in contributing to this scholarship fund can mail donations (checks payable to X-traordinary Women) to us at: 26 Fox Hunt Dr, PMB 204, Bear, DE 19701. Your contributions could allow us to not only increase the award amount, but perhaps select two winners in 2008."
