Getting Healthy with Joy

Exercise with Joy

Need a little inspiration for perspiration? Find a workout that's right for you - and keeps you motivated to move.

While thinking about what I was going to write, I decided to call my friend, the world-famous senior bodybuilder, Morjorie Newlin. Morj has been on Oprah, The View, featured in many books and magazines, and was just featured in the July issue of Ebony Magazine. We talked about how we feel about staying fit and other aspects of exercise (physical activity). Hope the following tips help you.

Make it Enjoyable
If the word exercise makes you feel exhausted before you start working out, call it getting fit or physical activity. Don't let a word or thought stop you from moving.

Find a place to workout that you enjoy. Everyone's different! You don't have to belong to a gym or group. You can get an excellent workout in your own home. Whatever floats your boat.

Try different things until you find your niche: cycling, running, gliding, walking, yoga, belly dancing, stretching, swimming, boxing, tennis, gardening, etc. Exercise (excuse me, physical activity) doesn't have to be structured for it to be effective.

What's Your Objective
Get fit
Reduce blood pressure
Control diabetes
Improve heart function
Improve energy level
Lose weight
Sculpt or reshape your body

Some activities will be better than others for achieving certain goals, but most will improve your health when done on a consistent basis. So, find an activity you like and stick with it. You'll benefit from the hard work.

In my July 26 article, I'll share some helpful tips on Lifestyle Changes.
